Todd's Train Depot

Have you tried Nick's Trains in Raleigh, just off of Glenwood, near the Crabtree Valley mall?

Not a big operation but when Tom's Trains closed last summer the staff there told me that Nick was looking to expand and asked that his store information be passed along to Tom's customers.

Hello WakeForestRR, I've never been to or heard of Nick's Trains. Is this a new shop? Do Nick's Trains have a good supply of inventory on hand???.............Rogerw.

Just hang out a sign and "Whitsett's" would be the third largest O-gauge store in N.C.....

...mostly a stinking diesel inventory of course.

It is not a new shop.  Haven't been there in several years so I don't know the state of the inventory.  Take a look at the web site.  It has photos of the shop and hours of operation.

They last updated their web site THREE years ago. Are they still in business? I live in the peidmont and never heard of them.

Hey Rob, It was good to see you at the Charlotte show! I've never heard of Nick's Trains. And you are right, the website is 3 years old and has not been updated. If all he has is what's listed on the website, I wouldn't want to go there to purchase anything. My layout is all modern and current product......Rogerw. 

I have been to Nick's and bought some scenery items there. They have some of all different gauges there.

i will miss Edna and the folks at Todd's Train Depot. It was always fun to go there on Saturdays when I was in North Carolina. Same with Tom's Train Station; two great train shops now no longer there.

F-V Trains, I also enjoyed going to Todd's Trains whenever I was in the Raleigh area. The only thing about Todd's Trains that I didn't like was the CIGARETTE SMOKE!!!!

Where did you get that wrap you put around your train show layout?

Hey Rob, I didn't purchase covering for the layout. One of the other members purchased it. I think they brought it from Lowes.............Rogerw.

Rob, it is landscape cloth, used in flower beds and such to keep grass from growing. Lowe's, HD, etc. should have it. I got ours on clearance at Big Lots.

Nick's Trains is a very nice shop.  Over the past year or so he has doubled the space and gotten a lot more stuff out.  He carries a full line of supplies ( all scales)  and a lot of used equipment.  Lots of oddball things.  Special orders go out every week to the appropriate suppliers and usually show up that same week.

The address is 5201 Oak Park Road, Raleigh.  Oak Park Road is next to the Dos Taquitos Restaurant on Glenwood Avenue and Nick's is about 50 yards behind.  The phone number is 919-881-1010.  The hours are 10 till 6  Monday thru Saturday.

I hate to hear that.  I liked that store.  I had my Postwar whistle tender repaired there about a year ago.

The last time I was at Nick's (about a year ago), his focus seemed to be HO and smaller.  There was a bit of O guage trains in the back, but he had a good supply of scenery and layout building accessories.
