Hello, I have a CHristmas consist with an illuminated 19588 Santa's Wish Station car that ran for maybe half an hour on brick powered Legacy layout.  Both bulbs burned out so I removed them today (tiny screw in's).  They are black inside.  I was wondering if there's a better option to replace them?  Something rated at a higher voltage that will replace them without rewiring new sockets?

Please advise easiest fix, thanks for reading…

That's quite job.  There was a time when a project like that would appeal to me.  However I'm more realistic about my ambition and expectations.  The old basic bulbs looked great until they died.
Actually, I felt pretty accomplished just getting the old bulbs out of their sockets without breaking them.  It appeared they were fastened in with Loctite and resisted removal as you would expect.
Now if there was a LED that screwed right in… that's the ticket.

Thank you all for helping.  Will take a trip to Radio Shack for those diodes.

You will probably have diminished smoke from a steam engine.

I don't think many of my TMCC or Legacy locomotives will open electrocouplers on anything less than 15-16 volts.
