Tortoise and lionel remote switch control question.

Hi All,

a quick question. I know I need to use a dpdt switch with a tortoise, I was wondering what type of switch the old lionel o22c1 switch is. Would that or any of the old lionel remote control switches work?

if not what would? I really don't want to use just a plain boring toggle switch. I like pretty lights.

Boring? You could always add your own lights.

The original Lionel controllers, and their lamps, are not suited for Tortoise motors, without a lot of modification. Actually, you can use a SPDT switch, to save a few pennies, and you can add LED pilot lamps to your control panel, as shown in John's photo. By the way, John, that's a very nicely done panel.

Thanks. This is one of several yard panels we have on the club layout. This one controls what we call the "west" yard. It has the ability to send trains out to any of our 4 mainlines. The longest sidings down the center of the yard (4 of them) are about 22 ft long. Here are some additional pictures.

This panel uses a "mini" toggle which controls the tortoise machines.
