I have a 65' in length single track (Atlas) main running MTH engines, controlled by the MTH DCS Commander.  Two questions:

1.  I tried the "Track Singal Test" as described in the supplied manual.  With either of the two locomotives I own (each one run separately during the test).  After holding the "DCS" and "FWD Signal" buttons for 5 seconds, the DCS Commander only shows the outgoing signal strength.  No value for the return signal is shown. Why is this?

2.  I have a PS2 MTH NW-2 (30-20018-1).  I cannot adjust its volume with the DCS Commander.  The MTH GP-7 I have allows for volume to be adjusted.  With the NW-2 I've tried the Feature and Factory resets, to no effect.

Any thoughts?

Rick,

The manual for the DCS Commander is wrong. There is one and only one track signal result generated. However, The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition has it right!

I can't help with the sound adjustment issue.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Barry:

Thank you once again.  I read the Commanders supplied manual, then looked up the same information in your excellent book, and noted the discrepancy in the information provided between the two.

I would expect the outgoing signal to be very strong, but now realize that there is no way with the Commander to obtain the responding signal strength.

As to volume control for the NW-2, I'm still working on that one.

I was surprised to see a signal strength of 10 from the engine.  It is a small layout though (65' of track), so 10 is great.

I called MTH Service today about the inability to adjust the volume on the NW-2.  Stumped the Technician.  I can hear the engine and other effects just fine, so I'll leave it for now.  I also asked about my GP-7 unexpectedly accelerating toward full speed.  MTH offered no explaination.  They did suggest that I stay close to the power supplies power outlet, just in case someday I need to pull the plug in a hurry.  Again.

I heard from a fellow O Gauge modeler that if you have O-81 or greater curves, then the trains will not derail, even at full speed.  Maybe next layout.

Find a glitch and document it, and you can call it a feature.
