On vacation in North Conway, NH. Wife hurt her shoulder while rock climbing so now have time to do some shopping. The train shop/toy museum/outdoor miniature railroad company closed down, so looking for other possible places to look for O gauge trains. Anyone know of a shop near North Conway/Conway. We are going to ride the scenic train later. Thanks.

Ron,
Hope your wife is feeling better. Sorry, I don't know of any train shops there but the Conway Scenic Railroad is as interesting as any train store. Be sure to walk through the yard and check out the ancient cabooses.

I rode the Conway last year in the dome car and enjoyed it more than I expected. There is an HO scale club layout in one of the yard buildings but I believe only open on weekends. I had no luck finding a train store up there.
The Mt Washington cog railway is another nearby option for a ride.
It's a bit of a hike, but if you don't mind heading south past Manchester, there's "Trains on Tracks" on Rt. 101A in Amherst. They are a small, but well stocked O scale store. I visited there this summer when I had to be in Concord and made a purchase of a custom painted MEC boxcar.
Actually, "Norm's O Scale Trains" in Casco, Maine is probably closer to the Conway area.
With either, in this day and age, it would be wise to call ahead and make sure they are open.
Hello, I think that the closest train shop in New Hampshire is in Manchester but I think that there is a train shop in Casco, Maine which may be the closer to North Conway. However, do check out the Conway Scenic Railroad, as mentioned in other posts, and the Mount Washington Cog Railway. On sunny days, they are both worth the price of their tickets.
There is a train shop in Amherst, NH—near Manchester—but the shop in Casco, ME, is probably closer. Another alternative would be to take 16 South to I95 South to 93 South to Malden, MA. There's a shop there called Charles Ro. They have a decent amount of O Gauge stuff.
The Conway Scenic RR and the Cog have long been on my to-do list. Enjoy!
Thanks everyone. Norm's only an hour away, but last time I was there (two years ago) it looked closed. I'll check them out again.
I always drop by the Conway CRR to check out their back lot. Did not see any new equipment this year, but always fun to see the different cabooses and the equipment around the turntable and yard.
We have hiked up Mt Washington and taken the Cog Railway down a couple of times when it was steam, but since they went diesel (at least mid-week) I haven't wanted to go there.
I would love to drop by Charles Ro, they already have a lot of my money. Too far out of the way. Same for Manchester.
Guess no train store stops this year.

I would hope so.

Enjoy Conway scenic. I love it up there, but it’s been awhile
You can try Hartman Model RR and museum. I was there many years ago while staying in North Conway. It’s in Bartlett. Close by. The store is good sized. Had at the time some Atlas O and a bit of Lionel. Seemed big into HO European trains. I just googled them figuring they were long gone as the store I believe was up for sale. They have a website and it seemed up to date.
I visit Norms if we are ever in that area. Best to call ahead as I think they are only open on Saturdays. His own in store layout is just stunning. It’s closed off but I was given a nice tour from the girl working their who was responsible for a lot of the scenic elements and structures. She also did the weathering on the locos and rolling stock.
Norm’s O Scale is still selling on the Internet. Don’t know about his retail presence.
Hi, sorry to hear of your wife’s mishap. Hope all is well soon.
Norms is open Only on Fridays for retail store visits. Well worth it! Call first.
best of luck.
leroof.
Hartman is no longer there. Even the outside tracks for their ride on train are gone. Now it is some sort of trading post on one side and another business on the other.
Wife is better. We are doing an easier hike today after a day off.
