A few years ago I took my son to the Queeny Park Boing Train Show..I spent about $600 on HO stuff  track and cars mostly..My sons first words when he walked into the house were to my loving wife.."Dad spent $600 at the train show"...major train wreck

2nd train wreck..my basement flooded( sump pump died) had to take down layout..my wife found a #6 Atlas turn out with the price tag still on it..$10.90 at that time..she stopped counting at 70..she did not see the ones I had already removed or the ones still new in the box in a bigger box under the layout..another catastrophe on the main line...

I say all that to say this

I do not have enough insurance to cover a 3rd train wreck if my loving wife gets a true picture of the investment I am making in O gauge MTH.mostly in the short period of time I am doing so...

..She does not really mind that I have a hobby ( or 4 ..wood working/ drummer/ Bob Ross painting..-that is harder than it looks/ trains( the other woman) her words)

and I have been married long enough to know how to "pick my battles"

So heres to a little subterfuge and a lot of " Honey..I am taking you out for dinner"

My wife knows that the hobby is expensive.  She knows what investment my son and I have in the basement too.  She also knows that I'm not at a bar with the guys or chasing women like some other husbands do... I'm in the basement playing trains with my son.

So there is an understanding and her perceived "value" of me spending what we do on model trains.

1drummer, there is a solution that many find useful at least in part. Pick up your son and your wife if she is willing and head out to the local train club. The St. Louis area has both an HO and 3 rail club amoung others. I don't have contact information for the HO club but if you contact me at my listed web site I can tell you about the Lionel club.

A lie is a deliberate attempt to obfuscate.I do not do that

I prefer "omission"   I dont tell..unless she asks

My wife is not unaware ....in essence I am only kidding myself

And my wife has no desire to take part in train shows or clubs..we have been down that road to no where

and my son only has interest in running not building
