And once again we wade into this topic with a sense of urgency!!  Went to the Massena Train show last weekend at Massena Arena in Massena New York. was able to work on several trains for folks. One particular guy wanted to know how to fix his ZW. I told him I can fix it, or find an electrician. He wasn't sure how to approach the job. I tell people if you don't know what you are doing, DON'T!!!!! It's not worth burning your house down to try and fix it yourself.

Had a second guy want me to plug his ZW in and test it, The cord had been spliced half way up and the old cord that was left was cracked and broken. I told him I would NOT plug that in, but was more than willing to replace the cord for him. He agreed and was happy with the fix. Transformer worked great after the fix.

Don't try it yourself fellas, (or Gals). Get help and ask someone that knows about electricity, after all you are dealing with 110 volts, no need to get electrocuted!!

It would be nice if I had a local hobby show nearby that serviced transformers. ZW's are heavy and shipping is getting expensive.

I had Hennings Trains fix my other ZW. They did a great job.

take it to a local electrician and/or electrical shop. It doesn't necessarily have to go to a hobby shop.

I would be very weary taking a ZW or similar to a general electrician shop. I'd rather have someone who has experience with classic Lionel Transformers service them. They already know the assembly/disassembly traps, common wear/failure points, and where to source parts. I wouldn't want to pay hourly rates for someone unfamiliar to trudge through those learning processes.
