I plan on constructing a layout modeled in upstate Pennsylvania mountains. I will have a background mountain scenery murial and construct mountains on the layout. I need to place many trees on my mountain. I would like to know how to make my own trees, and suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well Bob, for that background I suggest that you don't really need complete trees.  Just affix Lichen or whatever is your favorite.  It gives the same effect as dense tree growth.

As long as you have many trees to make, you may be concerned with the cost.  Try my way of making evergreens:  Keep a watch out for discarded old-style artificial Christmas trees (with the bottle brush type limbs).  Use bolt cutters or hacksaw to cut to them length, then heavy duty scissors to shape the tree foliage and to remove a liitle from the bottom of the trunk.  The beauty of this (aside from the cost) is that you can make reall nice tall trees.  Most layouts' trees are too short to be in scale.

I hope you get many responses.  There are loads of ways to make your own trees.
