I bought a used PS2 Hiawatha Hudson and I was unable to acquire the engine on my DCS. Other engines acquired fine on the same track section. I went through Barry's very helpful steps in the DCS Companion up to and including powering a short isolated section of track directly with the TIU. I even did a feature reset with a Z500: Horn-Bell-Bell-Bell-Bell-Bell. Battery was ok, engine runs fine in conventional with all the "bells and whistles." Still could not acquire engine.
Finally, I stumbled onto a solution. I tried a friends DCS remote (V3.1) with my TIU and the engine acquired and assigned the next ID #37. I then went back to the original remote (V4.01), and now it also acquired the engine. Everything works fine now.
So, anyone have an explanation? I suspect that the original engine ID could not be read by the V4.01 software, whereas the V3.1 software read it fine, and then reassigned it to a new ID since the original ID was taken. Now the new ID 37 could be read by the V4.01 remote.
I did not have the Recover Engine feature (available in V4.1). Would this have helped? Or maybe deleting all engines off the remote?
What do you think?
