Looks like you've sorted out what you wanted to accomplish. Looks good.
As Rich mentioned sponsor Evan Designs, I've found they have an LED product called, Full brightness all around Double LEDs. I've used them several times to replace the bulbs in K-Line caboose marker lamps. I needed something very small to fit into an approximate 2mm hole, yet having a full 360 degree light beam. I converted another K-Line caboose recently to LEDs. Here's the double-LED wire coming out of the un-altered marker lamp hole, meaning I pulled out the bulb and inserted the LED. Done.
