I was hoping someone could help my ID some good LED replacements for these lights.

These are marker lights from an MTH PS1 GP38.  If I measured correctly, it appears a 1.8mm LED would be a good replacement.  But all of the 1.8mm I can find have a larger ring around them.

Thanks for the reply.  I've been on Amazon searching.  I did see this one last night.  But look at picture #2.  That looks like a 1.8mm with the large ring.  The first pic is definitely a different bulb.  Maybe 5mm?

Couldn't you just shave off the plastic flange with a small utility knife. It's a 30 second job at most.

No, the first picture is a 3mm LED, and they already come in flangeless if you so choose.  What he needs is a 2mm maximum diameter LED.  The second picture that I posted above can not be shaved as the wide part actually has the LED chip in it.

I don't think so in this specific case Rich.  This is what Evan's offers.

He's looking for a specific sized LED that actually is out of production.

Ron, you could buy a harness from Lionel and use those.  These are 2mm LED's and should fit into the fixture on your engine.  Here's a couple of choices that are in stock at Lionel.  You might have to do a little wiring to make them match the MTH harness, but at least you can get something that fits.

Thank you so much for the offer cjack.  I started staring at the shell.  I'd poke at the holes with a hobby knife, stare some more, poke some more not really trying to accomplish anything.

Then, before I knew it, a 3mm bulb fit.  Ooops.  Oh well.  The molded ring in the shell is still present, so it does not look too bad.

Thanks All.

Ron

I have been drilling the molded dimples where classification lights should be on my Lionel F3'S and using flat top 3mm LED's with good results.  It makes a world of difference when the classification lights are lit and running around the track, a totally different personality to the mix.

Ron,

Looks like you've sorted out what you wanted to accomplish. Looks good.

As Rich mentioned sponsor Evan Designs, I've found they have an LED product called, Full brightness all around Double LEDs. I've used them several times to replace the bulbs in K-Line caboose marker lamps. I needed something very small to fit into an approximate 2mm hole, yet having a full 360 degree light beam. See that conversion work on this thread;  Grain of wheat bulbs to LEDs.

I converted another K-Line caboose recently to LEDs. Here's the double-LED wire coming out of the un-altered marker lamp hole, meaning I pulled out the bulb and inserted the LED. Done.

I use the 2mm post LED's for class/marker lights on diesels.
