Troubles with tmcc lockon

my diesel legacy trains run fine but when I run my legacy Mallet it trips the lockon when it is first started. After three or more resets it finally works,is this normal?

I used to use the TMCC Direct Lockon before I got DCS as well as Legacy. I had several locomotives that would trip it every time they came to a couple of spots on a loop for no reason at all, the engines ran fine. I don't use the Direct Lockon anymore.
