I built a brewery, it was posted on here...I have all these beer reefers...I needed somewhere for the beer to be unloaded.  I am kitbashing, out of a couple of Bar Mills structure kits, a wholesale beverage distributor, with a

RR loading dock in back and a truck dock in front.  I had, before I did my homework throoughly, complained about enough trucks for my modeling period

(1940).  Having now waded through books on circa 1940 and prior trucks, and

the available choices on eBay, of model, trucks, I found more than I guessed as

correct for that period.  Matchbox made a 1939 Peterbult..this the first year for

this make after Fageol (Calif. truck maker, was bought out).  Peterbilt only made 14 trucks that first year.  A Chinese company is making a model 380 1/43 Peterbilt.  It was made in the "1940's", but as early as 1940?  This model is avaiable with some huge, interesting, trailers.   I know there are some truck

drivers on here...  I also found Model Mint had made a White Mustang and

an IH tractor....Ertl made a Diamond T tractor and a 1937 Ford one.  These

first three are supposed to have been introduced in 1939...the Ford I have

always considered too light for these big trailers.  Corgi made a Mack LJ model

tractor, also introduced in 1939, and made a 1934 cab foward 6 wheel non

tractor White, found as a tank truck and a beverage truck!.  Corgi has also made a variety of open and closed trailers.  Luckily for me, not much changed through WWII, at least, in appearance, of all these truck models.  Now I have

enough variety of trucks to back trailers up to the loading dock, empty those

reefers, and send'em back.  The Peterbilt 380 model, has the center pointed

cab and flat paned double windshields of pre-1940 trucks....(except for IH)..

anybody familiar with these early Peterbilts, and when this model was introduced?

I have a bunch of the New Ray's Pete 380's

I will have to do some digging to see what about the 380's However there is a Truckstop in Walcott Iowa that will probably help you with information you may seek.

I have driven day cab Petes that are pretty darn close to the 380 1/43 trucks. Close enough to cast doubt on the year produced. It is possible I was assigned a tractor that is somewhat newer, and the basic design was the same.

I cannot help you with much more than that, there is a great deal of old style air breathing trucking being lost to time in my memory. They simply don't make them they way they are supposed to these days.

In the meantime, I consider the New Ray's 380 a decent model that will do well for post war years.
