SCARM for the MTH RealTrax O scale system

I am preparing a "how to" tutorial using SCARM for designing layouts using the MTH RealTrax O scale system.  This will be in PDF format (not video) and offer time saving hints when designing with SCARM. The tutorial can also be printed from the PDFs.

Tutorials 0-01 and 0-02 have already been posted on OGR.

Samples of this tutorial will appear on the OGR Forum soon. Layout designs that combine complex track arrangements will be shown.

Sample RealTrax layout attached

is SCARM a free software?  I am seeking an O gauge based layout design format so I can build a decent yard that also doubles as a turn around..since my Gargraves and MTH track is not as easy to work with as Atlas HO..I want to have a clear idea going in...

Also for anyone who wants to offer plans...

the area is a duck under that holds the proposed yard it can be up to 6 feet wide at most...it sits in an area that is 10 a 10 ....

my yard will be at about a 45 degree angle and the distance between single line "throats" is about 12 feet from the top (north to south) a single line off a 54 Radius Right turn out (west direction) leads to the yard, and the through line continues (south) along the wall 10 feet between switch to the curve that makes a west turn on a 42 inch radius then across about 6 feet from the curve to the 54 radius right turnout..that feeds (north) back into the single line throat for the yard off of two 42 inch radius curves all MTH Real Trax

the width of the yard tracks can be about 5 feet max...

also there is a gargraves turnout that will feed from the west side line into the the top 54 radius turnout..to bypass all the yard trackage...

let me know if this makes sense or you need clarification...

So what am I doing wrong..I added admin to my account

Here is the information supplied by the SCARM inventor/programmer

To use the new MTH library, download the ZIP file from the blog www.scarm.info/blog/general/mth-realtrax-library-for-scarm  then unzip it and copy the .lib file into Lib folder of SCARM where all other track libraries are located.   Depending of Windows version, default installation folder for SCARM may be "C:\Program Files\SCARM" or "C:\Program Files (x86)\SCARM". The Lib folder is there.   Now run SCARM and search for MTH item in libraries list – the new library “MTH-O-RT” is there.

Hi 1drummer,

I use 7-zip, which is tried and true. Get the version for the correct architecture of Windows that you are using. (32-bit or 64-bit).

Right-click on the MTH.lib folder and select File Extractor or 7-zip. Then use the dialog to extract it to C:\Program Files\SCARM\Lib.

Windows will extract it also by selecting Extract after a right-click, then you can copy and paste all of the files to the same folder: C:\Program Files\SCARM\Lib

Then open SCARM, use the arrow at the top of the Library\Track list and MTH RealTrax should be available.

It's not included as there are still tracks that need to added and the author is looking for feedback regarding the accuracy.

1drummer,

Please let me be a little more exact for the prior post.  You have to download and install the 7-zip program on your computer.  Then you have to right-click on the MTH-O-RT.zip file you downloaded from the SCARM website.  Then choose extract and choose the C:\Program Files\Scarm\lib folder as the place to extract the lib file.  Finally, all of this assumes you have already downloaded and installed SCARM.  If not, that must be done first!

Thanks, I out tab A into slot B....but After installing a zip program I do not get the option to insert the .lib file anywhere.  I attempted to post a screen shot but administrators have to approve it......I am going to attempt the update again...

On a side noteI redesigned the yard concept, now I have two reversing tracks,  which solved the issue of making one reverse loop accessible from both directions.

Film at eleven......
