Are TVS devices polarity sensitive??? I bought a 24-piece packet of them and will use them for the first time ever on this year's Christmas layout so I want to make sure I position them correctly. I plan on putting one on each of the 18 lockons that I will be using this year.

If you bought the correct ones, they aren't. Polarity sensitive TVS devices are for DC only. This is the ones I recommend for O-gauge trains running on standard AC power: 1500W 36V TVS at Digikey
Some folks that run higher voltages like 24V from the Z4000 might be better served using the TP1.5KE39CA part. Since most of us stick with 18VAC or less, I like the first part.

Off hand I don't recall what I bought, but I KNOW that when the topic was discussed here that a recommendation was made, and I bought them from Digi-Key. I'm almost sure you contributed to that thread and mentioned the link that you provided here since it is for Digikey.'

John, I did get the ones that you recommended. I had to admit I was concerned though when I looked at the label on the little packet of them! NOWHERE did I see 1500V 36V.
I landed up calling DigiKey and talked to a tech person. That person said that information is available by examining the specs using their on-line catalog.

Very few parts have all the specifications on them. Typically, if you do a Google search on the complete part number, you'll turn up a data sheet. Of course, since you have a Digikey number, the data sheets are almost always on the product page at Digikey.
