I have a mix of buildings by Lionel and MTH. The sidewalk heights are so dramatically different that they look silly next to each other. My layout top is 1" pink insulation board. How have you dealt with this issue?
Thanks,

I remove all the sidewalks and make my own out of MDF. Lionel buildings provide a brick filler strip to cover the sidewalk gap. For MTH buildings just drill holes in the MDF where the pegs are. If you ever get Walther buildings you can do the same but they have tabs which requires slots in the mdf. I cut the mdf to fit under the whole building plus the width of the sidewalk rather than just a strip in front of the building.

I've done the same as Norton only using foam-core board. I remember seeing a video on Youtube of a guy making concrete in a very nicely detailed fashion. I'll see if I can find it..
Here it is. I've done similar. Just not as nice looking. Ha
Thanks for all the great suggestions. I now have a way forward.

Did you keep your bases or toss them? I need a base that fits the MTH building that has the red and white striped awning. If you have one you want to sell let me know. Thanks

I'm pretty sure I still have them. I can check but it will probably be a few weeks before I can do so.
Send me an e-mail in a couple of weeks as a reminder, if you still need them.
I'll be happy to give you the base.
