I today had occasion, for the first time, to remove the shell of my 30-2643-1 R-K Baldwin VO-1000 that I bought in 2006 (Yes, the battery is still fine after 9 years)).  I was surprised to see a heat sink on the PS2 board that I haven't seen before.  It comes down both sides of the board and is connected only to the bottom of the rectifier.  AT the bottom, it bends toward the end of the board and has 2 screws that hold it to the base of the loco.  Between those screws is the screw holding the plastic bracket.  This is a narrow body loco, and this heat sink certainly would simplify installation of PS2 in a narrow body loco.

In the one gauge world the bridge rectifier is remote mounted...we mount them to whatever lead weight is handy. I've done a few conversions with O Gauge boards where there is no place to mount a heat sink. In that circumstance I let the MTH mount hang in the air...free air cooling and those have been running for years like that.

Is this the mount you're referring to? These are used in some of the MTH One Gauge lineup
