Posting here our NY Upstate Model Railroad Portable Event Layout in S gauge/American Flyer that promotes our club and this wonderful hobby. It is very basic, but drew considerable interest at an event we recently attended. It is designed to be transported in an F250 pick-up truck, and is placed carefully above the wheel wells with temporary supports so as to maximize the width, which is so important in our view.  The outside frame is 1x6's, the supports are 1x3's, on which 2 inch styrofoam is placed with foam friendly construction adhesive.  The supports are typical folding tables. It can be stored on edge and takes up very little room when not in use.  We were asked in another forum about this layout, and thought we might share here for those who might be interested. As seen in the photos, we run FlyerChief controls typically, which children and young at heart adults find easy to operate. Just an fyi.

Our club also has portable O, G, HO and N gauge layouts, which we display at various shows throughout the year.  The club also has large permanent S, O, G, HO, N gauge layouts. We are about one hour north of Albany, the State Capital, near lake George. More at upstatemodelrailroaders.com   Mike

Mike,

I had to look at your website to see where exactly you are, Upstate where? Happy to see you are in Glens Falls, NY-- one of my favorite spots. Several years ago there was a nice train store in Glens Falls by the Queensbury Hotel. It was owned by Mr. Curran (Art Curran, I think). I used to go up to the Queensbury every year for a SUNY financial aid conference and used to enjoy visiting Mr. Curran and his store. I bought one of my favorite railroad books there, "NYO&W Railway--Milk Cans, Mixed Trains & Motor Cars" by Robert Mohowski.

Good luck with your club.

Tom
