Last Sunday at our open house a visitor, Ken Molchanow took some video and uploaded it online. These clips show only a portion of our entire layout, but you at least get some flavor of what we're up to in Merchantville.

I take no responsibility for the over-abundance of Conrail power!

The railroad looks great.  I particularly like that the operational era of the rolling stock running on the railroad blends together such that the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.  I've seen some really well done club layouts but IMO mixing equipment from multiple era's and non-connected railroads on the same layout detracts from the "whole".  Selecting an era for a club railroad can be quite a political challenge.  Does Cherry Valley schedule alternate eras for operating events?

Chris, The video is nothing but CR, nicely done!  ehehe  I think the CR era blends in nicely with the railroad.  I like the mix of those weathered freight cars.  Thanks for posting.  Hope to visit soon.

It is unlike my situation, I'm am one of the, or if not, the only one modeling in the modern era on a layout where the scenery is stuck in the 1950's.  Just one look at the cars and you'll see they models of cars as old or older than my Mom.  I gave up on every era to focus 100% of the funds on making sure we are representing what we see today.

Thanks everyone. You're always invited, we meet Tuesday evenings. Just give us a heads up if you're coming.

Ed, I'd like to think we've reached the point where we'd have era-specific sessions, but that's not yet the case. Most of the time you'd see transition era trains running. 1st generation diesels and late steam. The day before saw PRR E7's, DLW F3's, a Brill 660 oil-electric and a lone GP15.

Most of the members run the 1st gen diesel and aforementioned steam: K4, M1, plus some early electrics. We have a couple members who love patchwork Penn Central and early Conrail. I think the most modern power are a couple SD35.

At some point we'll get to era-specific operations, I hope.

Update: I forgot to mention we will be open this Friday night Jan. 17, for NMRA open houses.
