Nice video David and an awesome engine
Thanks for sharing, Alex
Thanks, Alex.
Great Video!
David,
Thanks for the video.
Mine is my favorite at this time also.
Enjoy,
Mike R
I wish I had a need for one of these, and it most likely the best locomotive that Lionel has made to date. Unfortunately to control spending and not going out of hand on what I own I am only buying Pere Marquette and Ann Arbor stuff from now on.
Now if they re-do the Legacy berk with the smoking whistle and blow down effects I am all game. How about it Lionel? Make the 1223, the other surviving Pere Marquette Berk
jdeveerjr,
That sounds like a great plan. Good luck. We all say the same thing going on, called denial. LOL!!! I always said I'll only buy New York Central Steam and some Santa Fe F3's. Now I have several of both and UP, and Milwaukee Road, and C&O, and etc. LOL!!!
I hope it works for you. LOL!!
Mike R
PS...I'm not being sarcastic. I'm kidding, I hope that comes across.
Anyone know any dealer that still has either the 261 or 263 in stock? Jim

I believe the road numbers offered were 261, 265 and 267. Eastside Trains has 265 and 267 listed in a recent magazine ad for $995 which is still a great price even though its list. I'd call them to verify either is in stock .1-877-857-7246
Thanks for the correction Rick..and the lead. Jim
hey guys if you really want to see cylinder smoke use 1/16 inch evergreen tubing and make 4-90 degree elbows for each cylinder hole then smoke comes out straight at you a really nice effect!
$oo
Chicagoland Hobby has one on the Bay for a whoppin' $1299

Have they started becoming 'rare'?
David,
Great engine on a great layout - looks good
David
c.sam....not really that rare...but a good example of greedy pricing...more than 300.00 over Lionel's list and more than 500.00 over Chicagoland's cost. Full retail issue price was 994.99.
I purchased that locomotive and would not give it up for any price. It was a great buy for the money.
I would never part with mine!!! After all the lobbying, pushing, campainging, etc... My 261 sits promently on display in my living room!!
Now I need to get the Timkin made...
David: Is the Church (next to the MTH Firehouse) scratch-built, kit-built, or a production piece? Looks good, and my daughter's wanted a large city Church for quite some years now.
That church is one of two churches that I have acquired over the years. Both are scratch built probably in the 1950s given that construction techniques and materials used. They are very well done and a great addition to the layout. I just need some church going figures to finish off the scene.
Now I need to get the Timkin made...
HE HE, I LIKE THAT ENGINE ALSO!!
David: Thanks. Artistta has what you need for figures: Clergyman in Vestments, Nuns, Bride & Groom, etc. I wish SOMEONE would make a large Church rather than the tiny "Country Chapels".
You can't have too many videos of the S3 running.
Dan
Does anyone happen to have a video or actual pictures of this great engine but with either cab no. 265 or 267 (the ones without the white stripe along the boiler)? I have both cab numbers available for me to purchase, but I wanted to have an actual view. Thanks. Jim
All three, #261, #265, #267 have the white stripe.
Joe
Jim, I have the 265. I chose this engine because it sits in the steam shed at the Illinois Rail Museum. I love mine and it was used in freight service mostly. Here are a few photos from the NMRA show in Grand Rapids Michigan. I went back and reread your post, do you want photos of the real thing? I can't help there but the model is spectacular. BF
Joe (jc642), as you can see from Sasquatch's post of cab no. 265, there is no white stripe...I believe it is only on cab no. 261.
Sasquatch (BF), thanks so much for the great pics. Do you know if the real cab no. 267 has been preserved anywhere? Jim
Joe (jc642), as you can see from Sasquatch's post of cab no. 265, there is no white stripe...I believe it is only on cab no. 261.
Prototypically, only #261 should have the white stripe but Lionel delivered all three engines with the white stripe. I have #265, it has a white stripe. The white stripe on that particular engine must be painted over.
Joe
Wow Joe, even the Lionel website only shows the 261 with a white stripe. Thanks for the input.
Another side note.. I believe only the 265 has the cab# on the back of the tender. Regarding the stripe, Sasquatch did paint over his and it turned out beautifully.
I purchased (2) #261's. Have been considering parting with 1 of them.
I would never part with mine!!! After all the lobbying, pushing, campainging, etc... My 261 sits promently on display in my living room!!
I have the S-3 Pilot in my living room. 261 is still in the box waiting for the layout to be more complete.
I picked a 261 up on ebay a couple months ago for $1225, and was glad to get it. They don't pop up very often. I wouldn't part with mine either. Frankly, I doubt the wife would even let me if I wanted to. She's rather fond of that loco.
>>Another side note.. I believe only the 265 has the cab# on the back of the tender.<<
For rivet counters, There is also one detail on #261 different then #265/#267..
Joe
Joe, just out of curiosity, what might that detail be? Thanks. Jim
>>>Joe, just out of curiosity, what might that detail be? Thanks. Jim<<
Whistle on #261 has dual chambers. the other two have just one.
Joe
Thanks Joe...I will have to check that out. Jim
I did take the white stripe off of my engine. It was real easy to do. I used an Exacto knife and then painted it with engine black. This engine will be converted to KD's and then weathered for the mid to late 1950's.
Next time I,m out at IRM I will take photos of the real 265 and post them here. BF

Joe
Not really, the real 261 has two whistles and Lionel modeled their sound package with both whistle sounds.

Wasn't the real #267 an oil burner?
You are right Mr. Water. I forgot about that one. Thank you for your input as I always like it when you chime in. Did you ever work for the railroads or do you just read a lot? BF
