I took some photos of the MR 265 at the Illinois Railway Museum a few weeks ago.Nice to see it is now protected from the weather.I think the illuminated Milwaukee Road sign hanging above the doors of the barn is newly installed.Miller Engineering sells a model of the MR sign in case anyone wants one.

>>the real 261 has two whistles and Lionel modeled their sound package with both whistle sounds.<<

Hot Water,
I was simply pointing out boiler top whistle detail on Lionels #261, not sound.
Lionel's #261 correctly has two whistles detailed and the horn.
The other two versions have one boiler top whistle detailed even though all three models have sounds of two whistles and horn.

Sasquatch - Really nice photography of that 265.

All the S3's were delivered as coal burners, but 267, 263 and maybe one other (264?) were converted to oil for service in the "gap" between the electrified sections. All steam engines operating in the gap ran on oil due to Idaho rules aimed at preventing forest fires.  So, running 267 as a coal burner is prototypical. I'd still like to have an oil-fired S3. I've been thinking about converting my Weaver brass model, which is decorated for 267, but I haven't been able to locate a photo of the top of the tender to show me how to make an insert. To be really prototypical I'd also have to remove the ash pan - not sure how much work that would be but I'm betting it wouldn't be fun.
