Hello all

The New Haven EP3 is normally associated by the Parmele & Sturges model ..1938-41...and postwar continued by Baldwin.....

Prior to the P& S was the Silvermine model ...1936...bronze casting... $165.00 RTR! ...

This poor model has led a rough life and needs some love ...castings are a bit more refined than the P&S .

Cheers Carey

Hello all a bit of work done on the Silvermine EP-3

1931 GE delivers to the New Haven Railroad the EP-3 electric designed to pull trains from Grand Central NYC to New Haven ...handing off train to steam continuing on to Boston . PRR used the EP-3 as a base on which to design the GG1.

This O scale EP-3 was made by Silvermine Associates 1935 offered in kit or RTR at $135.00.
Bronze castings , double motor Alexander type trucks with 6 wheel
drive each. Running on outside 3rd rail. The EP-3 more commonly found was made by Parmlee & Sturges beginning in 1938.
Osgood Bradley 80' coaches made famous by Gilbert / American Flyer ..were first used on the New Haven in 1935 ...light weight construction offered no thrills but reliable people movers for commuter service .
1937 Alexander ( American Model Railroad Company) offered a cast aluminum Osgood Bradley coach ...offered postwar by Baldwin .

I'm interested in knowing how many such kits and completed models were sold by Parmele & Sturges and Silvermine. I expect very few. You would think that people who spent a lot of money and bought these as completed models or kits would have taken care of them or built them so that some well-preserved examples would still exist. The fact that completed models from kits seem to be rare leads me to believe that people who bought kits did not complete them - perhaps because they did not have the necessary skills or tools.

I think that Parmele & Sturges were located on Crown Street in New Haven, Connecticut. A few years ago I took the train to New Haven and saw the building where they did business.

I'm a New Haven fan and have several modern EP-3 models by MTH.
