I am on my 2nd Vision Line oil burning 4014 this week. This is the 2nd one with the wire disconnected from the motor (easy fix), and both also have an issue with the pop off smoke running so hot that it's scorching the wicking material after the 2nd pop off. . . The first unit I put 20 drops of fluid in each unit before operating as the manual directed. . .
In the 2nd unit, while I had the engine opened up to repair the motor wire, I filled the pop off smoke unit with 60 drops before it started to visibly look saturated. Even after that much saturation, and allowing it to sit for an hour. The 2nd unit is burning super hot with thick, milky, smelly smoke. This is incredibly frustrating.
Side note: Everyone in previous posts is absolutely correct about the dual smoke unit being massive!! While I had this one opened up, each side of that perfectly functioning unit took over 60 drops and still didn't look saturated!!. .
Now keep in mind, the instructions say to just put 20 drops in the smoke stack! This is no where near enough to fill that unit, AND have enough to wick over to the whistle steam unit as they intend.
In order for the whistle steam unit to receive smoke fluid, the fluid must reach the bottom of the smoke stack unit, then be drawn under a metal divider through a very thin 3/16" piece of wicking material. You must be very patient for this to take place, and add fluid several times to get the whistle steam unit full. . OR! I found it much more effective to slowly add fluid down the hole for the whistle steam straight into the smoke unit. This has proven to work very well.
Now, that being said. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the blow of steam smoke unit from burning up so quickly?!? The unit is saturated with smoke, and not over filled. I can see the fan unit easily blowing across the element. But it just burns the wicking up after the 2nd blow off and makes the nice smelling smoke, and the house, smell horrible.
Has anyone else seen this? Are all your blow off steam smoke units working fine after 5 minutes of use?
