On another post it is mentioned that voltage drops at the transformer.
I understand a voltage drop at point of contact due to long wire runs using undersized wire. I understand amperage increase due to increased power needed but I don’t understand how voltage can drop at the transformer output setting due to an engine not performing properly. Help me out here. Thanks.

If the engine is drawing more current than it should it could easily overpower the transformer.  On the other hand so could adding a long string of traditionally-lit passenger cars added behind a well-functioning engine, as well as many other things.

As the load the transformer is driving at its output begins to exceed the transformer's rating its output voltage will start to drop.  If the rating is exceeded by a large enough margin the transformer's circuit breaker will open the output, and the voltage will immediately go to zero.
