I would like to operate the Walthers model 933-2702 crossing gate using a momentary contact pushbutton instead of the supplied lever switch.  I will have another crossing signal (MTH 30-11006) in parallel.  The gate has white, red and black leads.  Am I correct in assuming the white is common and the red / black go to the gate solenoid / light?  So can I just hook the red, black and one lead of the MTH crossing light together on the hot side of the circuit with the white and other MTH lead on the common side?

Also, I assume it can take 22 VAC, but is there a preferred voltage?

Haven't found instructions on line.  And I was unable to attach a jpg of the instructions that came with it.  There is a lever switch (kind of like a giant toggle) with pin connections for AC and three wires to the gate.  Also connections for the option of actuating it with an insulated rail.  I started to disassemble the lever switch but stopped when I saw what I think was a little PC board...probably to make the light flash.  It just dawned on me though that I can put an ohmeter between the AC pins and the black/red/white to see which one is common.  Actually it also just dawned on me that I can probably use the connections meant for the insulated rail to go to my momentary contact switch.
