Starting to build water feature on my layout. Have never poured water before. What is best product? One part or two part? Will need a lot of material as river and lake will be good size. Thanks! Bobby

For broad expanses of flatwater, consider a piece of window-glass. Spray-paint the bottom with very flat paint and paint waves onto the top with Mod Podge or other matte medium. Hard to beat.
I've used both Woodland Scenics (one-part) and Scenic Express (two-part) products, both with success.
Don't forget to seal the bottom and edges to prevent any leakage.
I used a technique that I found on u-tube for making water. I'm trying to model a lake side wharf and float bridge scene. Basically you spread a layer of white glue down and then place several layers of toilet paper over it , making a glue and toilet paper layer cake. 3 or 4 layers of paper are enough. While the glue is still wet, tease the toilet paper to bunch it up to make waves. Give it several days to completely dry then paint with acrylics or latex paint. After all is dry use some water based high gloss varnish for the wet look. I put on 4 coats for a realistic glossy finish.
It's cheap and easy and you can cover a large area quickly. The area in the photos is about 16 inches by 3 feet.
