This is a very common issue. The real cure is to do a fairly simple mod to the offending Lionel engines. The power pickups need a 22uh choke before the power goes into the electronics.
Either of these chokes will do the trick for most engines.
sound simple but do you have a wiring diagram on how to wire it.looks like there four terminals
brian
first one i look at has four terminal but the second one has two so i'm not sure how to wire both.
brian
and where to put it in the engine.
It has to go in the center roller pickup wire after they are combined and before they go to any electronics. I can't give specifics as each locomotive model may be different. Also, for Lionel steam, one has to go in the locomotive and one in the tender.
So if I wire in center roller pickup with the two prong chock one to the wire and the other to the pickup.am I correct?

The choke goes in series with the power coming into the locomotive and the electronics. I'm not sure what you're describing.
The one chock you told about has two leads on it.if I take one and put on the power wire going into loco and hook the other onto the pickup roller?
Yes, many times there is a wire nut that joins all the wires. Frequently, there are two leads, one from each pickup, so both of those go to one lead of the choke. The other lead of the choke goes to the electronics.
Thank you I'll order up the chocks
