I've wanted to take nightime videos on my layout, but found the contrast just too great.  All I get is a few lights and black.  Then this month Model Railroader had an article on adding blue rope lights to give you nightime background lighting.  So, I added six strings of lights around the train table and found they were wonderful.  They bounced off the white ceiling and gave a nightime ambience to the room.  Running trains was great as you could see them now (as well as the tables!) and the building lights and interiors stand out far better than when room lights are on.

So the next step was to see if I could now do nightime photos and videos.  Here is a short video, which as you can see is partially successful.  You do get more of the scene, but not quite as much as I had hoped for.  But, no matter, I thought it was neat to watch.  The sights and sounds of trains at night is hard to beat.

(Sorry not to have this embedded, but for the life of me, I cannot get the embedding process to work - despite following all the directions!)
