K-Line GG1 making her last run on my railroad. This K-Line beauty is off to a new home with an OGR Forumite. She has been replaced by an MTH Rail King Tuscan Red unit that has PS 2.0 which I run exclusively on my layout.

In my opinion, the K-Line semi-scale GG1 locomotives have by far the best appearance of all, and they are great runners.
A couple of tour groups arrived early this morning


There was discussion this week in another thread about the handsome Commodore Vanderbilt Hudson. I found this old photo of it making a rare trip through the western NC mountains scouting a good location for the Vanderbilt family to build their 'mountain estate'.
Their Biltmore House stands now just on the other side of the far ridge near Asheville...
I posted these pics earlier in the week on a thread about ROW products. I liked them so much, I am posting again as my contribution this week.

The ROW cabooses do not have the same level of detail as the offerings today but 20 years ago, they were cutting edge and all brass construction. Plus, they offered models not available from others.

Here are a few shots of a ROW CA-4 on the Eastern District. The CA-4's were originally built in 1944 and some were not retired until the 1990's. This particular number UP 3821 was retired on 01/21/92 and was renumbered to UP 25121 in April of '59.

gee bob.... that GG1 sure looks nice.... i'm pretty excited about it... it'll look real good running around my office...

here's what i'm working on this week, finially building my ceiling loop... i had to take down one of my glenn snyder shelves... i need to order more from him... when i first got the shelves i could only fill two... now i still have trains in boxs and they wont fit on four....







now i have to paint everything yet...i'm just cuting the pieces and putting everything togeather, before i paint them, and screw everything down...

it'll look good when its done... trust me...

I have the same shelving you do and I noticed how much space you left between rows of shelving. You might consider 1 1/2" space with freight cars which will leave plenty of room for engine height. You could put another row of shelves up with the space savings. Just a thought. I really like your ceiling track.

It is great. We picked it up in one of the antique malls in Strasburg. They had a ton of old RR stuff, especially lanterns. From what I read, this version is pretty common, but it's a nice piece to have. Not sure if it was cleaned up before I got it or not. It's real clean and complete.

I've been burning the stuff restaurants use in their table top oil candles (guess it's lamp oil?) and so far it seems to burn pretty cleanly.
I agree that is a nice lamp. Was it bought near the Strasburg RR? I'll have to explore around better next time I go there.

Speaking of Strasburg, here are my new-to-me MTH Strasburg coaches purchased from fellow forumite GregJ410. Not 100% accurate to the prototype, but still beautiful cars, imo. They are pulled by an MTH Premier Atlantic.

Yes, there were two antique malls right outside of the downtown area (I think on the opposite side of town from the railroad), right next door to each other. We only went into one, but they had a bunch of lanterns and other RR items for sale. Plenty of PRR stuff if I remember right.

We were there in April so maybe things have changed. Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the place. They also had some O and S gauge stuff.
