Thanksgiving day. 2 year old friend of the family gets his first Lionel experience.
Pushed the button on the whistle shed. He's hooked.

I only had my IPhone today at the College Park, MD Aviation Museum, and the crowds kept me busy. I did get this photo looking towards my modules, and a video over on Weekend at the Movies. all the police cars at lower right are parked at the donut shop.
Another thread on first trains made me realize that this Christmas marks the 40th anniversary of my first electric train:
Andy
Congratulations, Andy. This Christmas will be my 50th anniversary in trains. They may try to take Christmas from us but they'll never get our trains!
Bruce
Congratulations Andy and Bruce! I will split the difference. It has been 45 years since I took things into my own hands and bought my first train set. I was 13.
Bruce,
Nice layout! I find Saulenas' Tavern a fascinating structure that I would like to have on my railroad. Is it a commercial kit or ready-made building?
The Amtrak paint just had to go!.
In preparation for the repaint I decided to add separate details and do away with the grill work around the cab windows. It's not show quality but then neither was the original LTI paint job.Bruce

Saluting the military.......the Patton's 4th Armored Division.....the unit that relieved Bastogne December 26th, 1994 gets ready to move out.
I started out with 2 TMCC Weaver ALCOs but had issues with the TMCC.......speed went up and down at will......I caught the train going over the bridge at a good time.
Could the the metal building frame be the issue?
I switched to DCS, and the MTH DL109-110s did not disappoint.

Well, we had our fifth "Downtown Winter Festival" display for the City of Los Angeles this weekend. For this event, we use a few simple loops just to display the trains and let the kids take the controls, though we've discussed the possibility of building a portable layout specifically for public events. We also give advice on starter sets, promote the hobby, and engage in shameless self-promotion of the club.
More photos were taken by other members and I'll post them after they're distributed.
A sincere Thanks to everybody who sent me a "Like" for this neighborhood "Scene along the way":
