This week I’ve been running two New Haven Railroad trains powered by models of ALCo locomotives on my 12’-by-8’ layout.
New Haven RS-1 #0668 is an Atlas O Master Line model (6888-2, MSRP $429.95) with TMCC made in 2004. It is pulling an Atlas O Trainman 60-foot passenger coach, combine, and Railway Post Office.
New Haven RS-3 #531 is an Atlas O Trainman model (20033012, MSRP $399.95) with TMCC made in 2012. It is pulling MTH Premier stainless-steel passenger cars with fluted sides.

Thanks Scott for getting us rolling this weekend! Here are my photos of the fun kind for this fine weekend!
A trolley speeds by on the high line as rock climbers scale a cliff.
A N&W Y6b mallet pulls a coal train past the commuter station. Commuter passengers on the platform are amazed at the sheer size of this locomotive!
A view from my second floor office window.
Always lots of activity in downtown Patsburg. American Flyer, Railway Express Agency, and Lucky Strike cigarettes all offer a hint of the era I model.
Patsburg's Westend community on the upper level and the Brewtown community on the lower level.
This week, I have something different...videos taken using my new tripod cell phone holder. I'll start by showing some regular photos so you know what you will be looking at in the first two videos:
Now, remember last week I had photos of those coal hoppers my son painted and decaled? Well here is the whole train...an early Conrail coal drag filled with all kinds of hoppers from many predecessor railroads as well as some repainted into Conrail. They are being hauled by a trio of SD-45's which were commonly used to haul coal trains in that era. Here they are at the signal bridge at MP 150.7 just east of Port Royal:
Next, here's the same train about 32 miles to the west just beyond Mattawana. Watch the signal drop:
And finally, here's something you've probably never seen modeled...the Amtrak Three Rivers which operated from 1995 to 2005. Truly a unique consist built with Lionel F40PH's, MTH and Weaver mail cars, Amtrak passenger and baggage cars from MTH, Lionel, and Golden Gate Depot, and finally, Road Railers made by Weaver. I remember seeing the real thing here in the Pittsburgh area. The scene is the grade crossing at Mattawana, and the grade crossing signals and gates were marketed by Ross Custom Switches at least 20 years ago:
That's a lot of videos to look at, and if you checked them all out, I hope that you enjoyed!
Ran with the Trackers tonight at a public show in Manassas, a Standard gauge display and an O gauge layout. The show runs through Sunday. Show details:

Magnificent!
Neal, the pictures and videos are incredibly realistic. I believe that I am really there!

These images show the track plan/scenery that will be used to create 2022 Christmas Layout memories. Actually it's not quite accurate - I did not install the 8 switches.

Truly Maddening!
Off to a great start gentlemen, Steve it looks like you have a good handle on the start of the old layout in its new digs. I hope you stay Hurricane safe after your move to Florida. I always look forward to Scott starting the weekly "Weekend Photo Fun" every Friday, it's the first thing I look for when I bring up the Forum on Friday's, makes for a great start to the weekend.
I hope everyone has a terrific weekend.
Vids from Trainfest.
This was Christmas, 2008 at my house. I was getting "big" into standard gauge tinplate, and here was my chance to see it under the Christmas tree. MTH 400E and a set of red and cream Lionel Classics cars.
As a Postwar guy, there seems to be no end to the searching for and acquiring yet another set, loco, or piece of rolling stock.
I recently picked up a classic, the 3665 Minuteman Missile Launch car. No, this is not rare or hard to find but I've always limited my search to one that's in very good condition, is clean and, most of all, works well. The mechanism can be tricky and those in good working order can be tougher to get your hands on.
Hers my latest acquisition. Pure fun!
MTH LS25m dummy with my experimental resin printed pilots waiting in the shop for me to finish the powered one:
Thanks Peter!
Recently visited Ed Rappe's layout.

Walt, I really enjoyed watching your 2022 Christmas layout. You have capture the true meaning of a Christmas layout. I love it.
At the tail end of a year, the tail end of a heavy freight...
Waiting on the "all clear" from the tower!

Our first year with standard gauge on the tinplate Christmas layout. Also our first year with a standard gauge train in the house. I have to say it’s pretty cool.
Hello everyone,
I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, and safe, New Year.
The Atlas O Grand Trunk Western 52' flat cars that I have to operate with the Grand Trunk Western locomotives and cars that I have. The Grand Trunk Western corporation owns the railroad tracks that run through Michigan, near where I live.
There used to be real Grand Trunk Western flat cars like this for several decades in the trains running over the GTW railroad tracks in Michigan.

I did not have photos of both of the Atlas O Burlington Northern Hy-Cube 40' box cars together until today.

It's almost Christmas but the southwest continues to scratch out a living moving coal all the while looking for that elusive shiny ore.
Early morning on the Utacolzona RR with the sun rising.
Up early moving coal.
Thanks for looking.

Here's my Philadelphia police car with a light kit I installed. Evans Designs (a Forum sponsor) sells the kit. Relatively easy to do:

Gotta say that that Amtrak consist really resonated with me Neal! I model the California Zephyr from the early 2000s so long Amtrak consists like this really resonate with me especially those mail cars and road railrailers. Really makes me feel good seeing other modelers who model Amtrak prototypically like I do as a Rivet Counter.
You’re scenery has given me new found inspiration and something I can look back on when planning my own scenes🙂
Thank you for sharing my man!
