it is 1949 and the photographer caught the Torpedo, 3768, pulling the limited into the station. It has some of its fairing removed to allow better access to the mechanicals. Soon all the fairing will be removed.
The Torpedo is a Weaver engine.
Here are some views of something I've never posted on this thread before...because until this past week, it did not exist! It is my diesel fueling pad, which is still under construction. Most of the work is done, but the flood lights still have to be finished and installed along with a few other details. It's all scratchbuilt aside from the two Weaver sanding towers which have been sitting in boxes under the layout for over ten years!
Great photos everyone!! Here are some photo experiments using natural light. Have a wonderful and safe weekend everyone!
Neal,
Your track in the re-fueling scene is gorgeous as is all of your layout. I happen to be a 2 raider but regardless of the number of rails I’ve never met a model train I did not like. Great work and thanks for sharing.

Mel, the station in the video in the foreground, what model or build is that? Looks great.

I agree with Malcolm, but the spigot and hose put it over the top!

Thanks Dave.
It is a model of the station in Phillips, Maine on the narrow-gauge Sandy River & Rangeley Lakes Railroad which closed during the 1930s, although the station itself still stands. I built it from a kit by Banta Modelworks. The kit is no longer listed on the Banta website but I believe that it will be produced on special order.

Stunning!
Wish we had more people who model like this!
Like myself, I model what I like and seen growing up, I believe it helps to inspire and achieve the final goal. Model 3r like the H.O. ers.
Malcolm and John,
Thanks for your comments about my diesel fueling pad. With regard the hose, I got that idea after looking at prototype pictures so I would have an idea how to model the fueling pad. One of them had a water hydrant as they are called, and a light went off in my head, as I have one of those at the top of my driveway! Here's a picture of mine:
I have this because my driveway is about 750' long, and since I also like to garden, I needed a water supply at the end of the driveway to water the flowers. It was way too far to run a hose, so I had the plumber install a hydrant. So once I saw the photo of one of these on a fueling platform, I knew I had to include it. There was no way I was going to try to model that handle in O scale, but I recalled that I had some leftover pipe valves from when I modeling the PRR pneumatic piping used to control the switches at the interlockings. So I figured, why not just use that. So I took a short length of brass tubing (3/32" as I recall), bent it to shape and added the valve, and voila! I had an O scale hydrant. The hose is just a piece of 26 gauge green wire coiled up like a real hose and laying on the platform. So that's how I did it.

Peter,
Very nice scene. Unfortunately, it looks like the downtown scenes in the pandemic era. I hope things can open up soon and the people can come back.

You do such a fantastic job creating visual depth perception on the layout and maintaining a field of depth in your photos. It is amazing to consider when you realize the layout is only about 2 feet deep to your wall at this point. Most enjoyable to see your work each week and gain inspiration from it.
Cheers

SIRT,
This is a great picture. As I've posted on here before, I really like subways and transit vehicles. Can you tell us more about this image and do you have any more of this scene you could share and comment about.
Did see your post about the MTH PC units. With MTH always having done many subway cars, I always wished they would have done a model of an articulated light rail vehicle, particularly the Siemens version which are so common around the country and are used here in Pittsburgh. We all know Mike isn't doing any new tooling these days, so I doubt we will see one.
Also, thanks for you kind comments about my fueling pad post.
Thanks Neil.
We took a bunch of photos for CTT FEB 2013. Most didn’t make it in. At least I got the cover.
I built this scene after the Staten Island St. George Ferry terminal and SIRT commuter service. It can also be universal for any other passenger trains as well. Back then, I used X-MAS lights. As with all my custom builds and layouts, I use pine and door skin materials sometimes covered with spackle.
On top is the S.I. city bus depot & Taxi stand. The doors to the terminal are Plastic Ville. I make all my signage on the PC using word or Excel as well. I like S scale items toward the background. The layout operation was to have two commuter trains arrive and depart from the platform areas. MTH never produced the old SIRT BMT MU cars as promised so the accurate look remains to be seen. I tried to capture a little bit of everything based around the Island, 1970. I like the LIRR so I just run them on the “Wrong Island”.
Well with me, it’s just the opposite. I wish I had your long sprawling scenes with those LARGE PA mountains. I still have some family up in Bradford. My cousin is the towns tax collector there. I always wanted to model a removed area of track next to the main ROW, like on the Curve. Don’t have a basement in my area, South of Nashville.
Thanks for your interest.
