I know it's not even Halloween yet but let's face it; Those of us in the train community are starting to think about Christmas! "You know who you are" Here is a little throw back from last year to warm things up. Let's see your tinplate!

Good morning tinplaters,
Streamlined trains where very popular in France around 1935, all manufacturers have done several models. This one is a CR, Charles Rossignol, O gauge clockwork.
One of the most beautifull one was the Hornby Northern Starr, unfortunately the loco wheels are too small and it is not a real Pacific 462. As Hornby tends to rationalise his production he uses the standard motor you find with other products. But anyway a nice looking train.
Have a great tinplate weekend, Daniel

During the first world war the CIWL Orient Express came to a standstill. In 1916 Germany and its allies started running their own luxury train to Constantinople: The Balkanzug. This allowed the Germans to increase their influence in the Balkans and Middle East. The Balkanzug ran only for a few years and is scarcely modelled. Bing of Nurnberg, Germany, made in 0 gauge some tinplate coaches for this train, a green and a brown coach, the type of coach is not clear but the printing explicitly mentions the train name and route. Each coach is 17 cm long. I assume these coaches were made in the same years the train ran, I do not think this cars came in a set with a matching locomotive.
If you want to read more about the Balkanzug look here: http://retours.eu/en/30-balkanzug-1916/
Enjoy your tinplate.

This really gets me in the mood for the Holidays.
Its nice to start the weekend out with some beautiful tinplate. Thanks for posting folks.
To follow up on Frenchtrains' and PD's streamline trains, my tinplate offering this week is a good representation of American Flyer's #315 passenger set from 1939. No streamlined engine, but these are the blue version the streamlined cars.
Have a great tinplate weekend

Agreed it's a bit early - one holiday at a time, please! But here's my layout from last year. And who out there has any Halloween tinplate, anyway??

This week we find an interesting scene at Waban Junction. The Biller narrow gauge train is waiting for transfer passengers from a Joy Line train powered by a unique tinplate locomotive and tender made for me by Colin Duthie in far off New Zealand. At the time (early 1990s) I didn't own the true Made in USA Hornby locomotives, so Colin made one with a Hornby #20 mechanism. What a beautiful little train. And look, here comes an Ives powered by a #17 with a repro tender and spectacular LVE White Yale parlor car (still looking for Harvard 20 years later).

Hey Greg (Northwoods Flyer) -
I need some running gear for an AF 424...are there any parts dealers out there that carry a substantial number of prewar Flyer 'O' parts?

Hello PW53INVA, I love thing your son got a the Goodwill that looks cool and neat, I love your Marx train layout it is very nice and well done my friend. I am a Marx Train lover too, collector, and Marx train runner too over 60 years too Thanks lonbow57ca.
Hello Longbow57CA, thanks for the compliments. My layout is a work in progress. Need to wire more of the accessories and build some covers for the access hatches but it is a hobby and I will get to it when I can. It is fun to run the trains and it is fun being a kid again in my old age. I enjoy your posts and understand that you have been a Marx fan all your life. I had my Lionel set and my brothers when I was a kid and did not really discover how much fun Marx was until seeing other's Marx here on the forum a few years ago. Marx is fun, well built, and easy to work on, who could ask for more. Oh yeah, lucky to have a son who keeps his eye out for neat train stuff for his old dad.
Have a good one and keep on Marxing...

Yes that is one of mine as well as a few more I did.
Happy Friday !
Fun to play with toy trains .
Today we go back to 1910 /11 Carlisle & Finch #34 ...running on original ribbon track .
Track you start off with long pieces of strip steel and a pile of ties with little slots ....
push rail into slots on ties ..adjust your radius as you go with the inner rail positioning of the tie insertion.
DC operation as batteries were still the main stay power source .... but soon to be replaced by transformers .
Off to York next week to find some cars for the little #34 to pull .

Those are all very cool Chris....I've always thought about restoring a few of my rougher tinplate cars, but have never even thought about custom Christmas tinplate, I see a few projects in my future! You have a great imagination!
