For green areas Woodland Scenics recommends either Fine Turf Green or Green blend to start off with. Most 'scenery experts' recommend starting off with Green Blend whether its Woodland Scenics or Scenic Express (or other makers). The recommendation is invariably go dark to light. So as an example you would apply green blend then maybe fine turf olive or light green followed by very little yellow for accent. You would basically apply other foam in the format - low, medium, high ground cover. So fine turf would be followed by coarse turf, underbrush, clump foliage, foliage, field grass, brush, trees etc. using the dark to light formula wherever possible. For example underbrush - dark, olive , light green in clumps together. The fine turf would always be on hand to sprinkle for accents.

You would use soil if you want bare areas or say a dirt path.

Different 'landscapes' require different foam formulations such as swampy areas, burnt grass areas, sandy areas, forest floors etc.

It would be best to buy a scenery book. Woodland Scenic's Scenery handbook is very good. Dave Frary's scenery book followed by Lou Sassi's book are also very good. Both Woodland Scenics and Dave Frary have very good YouTube videos also - https://www.youtube.com/watch?...uYVGMZ1_mLJHYQG7R8Wx
