The title says it all. What is your consist behind a NYC Hudson?

My Dreyfuss Hudson pulls a set of 6 Williams HW gray passenger cars.
My Empire State Hudson pulls a set of Williams streamline silver passenger cars.....seems to look better with the silver engine. Just had to add a photo of Smithsonian Dreyfuss with William car

K-Line 20th Century Heavyweights behind Vision Line 5344.
We have a Lionel 8206 NYC that we run. Short answer is whatever needs hauled: Hotwheels, army guys, tank cars, passenger cars, even pulled an autobot once or twice. We have quite a few NYC gondalas that we pull on a regular basis.
We also have some RMT NYC passenger cars we pull.
Great topic!!! One of my favorite engines! Depends on which NYC Hudson were talking about...
Lionel NYC Milk Cars...
1938 GGD 20th Century Limited...
GGD ESE...
Where to start. Dreyfusses pull 20th Century streamliners(GGD), ESE pulls stainless streamliners(GGD), Commodore Vanderbilt pulls green heavyweights(all manufacturers). Unstreamlined J1s and J3s pull TT Gray Pacemaker Heavyweights(K-Line) and Green Pacemaker Streamliners(MTH), green heavyweight postal/baggage express trains(57 varieties).

Another NYC Dreyfus Hudson! The 3rd Rail 1938 20th Century Limited blue striped 12 car set is far too heavy to pull up my long, steep S-curves with one or even two 3rd Rail matching E-7s. Even one Hudson couldn't provide the 6 1/2 pounds of tractive effort required. So I got a second Dreyfus and double headed them which accomplished the goal nicely. I did however have to pair up 3 ZW-L transformers with 6 MTH 4000s to provide up to 16 amps throughout the 900 feet of track. I've converted most of my other passenger cars to LEDs, but through pure stubborness, I wanted to operate these as procured. I have some rough movie edits that I'll have to post sometime.
K-Line scale length Empire State Express cars, i.e. the whole train.

It was called the "Water Level Route" for a reason mine has no problem pulling all 12 cars as evidenced by my video posted above... but I could see how it would not be as successful if I had grades on my layout
Right now I have the MTH Empire State Express scale Hudson pulling 9 of the 18" polished aluminum MTH cars. Before this I was running the K Line Scale Hudson with 6 K LIne 18" Heavyweights. Next up is a Williams Master Series Dreyfuss with a mix of MTH 18" 20th Century cars in 1938 and 1941 paint schemes. For Christmas I will have the Lionel scale Hudson with Vandy tender pulling 8 Rail Chief cars. I love the NYC Hudson. I have 12 of them and can't seem to run them enough.

My 783 pulls a Lionel REA express reefer and a string of Atlas 60' Trainman NYC passenger cars. Still waiting for Atlas to produce the NYC observation car.

That double headed heavyweight consist-WOW. That was impressive. Great job Ron.
My 1990 scale Hudson re-issue pulls nothing. It has the scale coupler attached, so nothing fits. Yes, I do have the "regular" knuckle, but just haven't gotten it attached.
I *do* have several of the Madison re-issues and the bakelite scale freight car re-issues that will be candidates once I get off my lazy butt and swap out the couplers.
Me, I don't run passenger trains that much, so my Hudsons (when I run anything at all - I keep getting bogged down in projects) typically pull freight - which the real ones did regularly later in life.
I have the MTH 5445 ex-PS2 Dreyfus and I run it with Williams Baby Madisons in the late 20th Century scheme. ("Ex" PS2 because I pulled the boards when they went brain dead and now it's hot-wired for DC only operation.)
The fictional 21st Century Unlimited consists of an MTH Commodore Vanderbilt pulling MTH aluminum streamlined passenger cars. The tender has been converted to carry liquid hydrogen which burns to heat water to make steam, leaving the drive unchanged. The water created by the burning of hydrogen is added to the water tank for conversion to steam -- bringing a new meaning to the water route.
I have a 5340 Lionel Scale Hudson w tender pulling a 20th Century Ltd. consist of 7 painted aluminum Lionel passenger cars on my outer loop. The consist is a baggage car, 3 Pullman coach/sleepers, a dining car a dedicated sleeper car, and rear observation car. No dome car as NYC never ran one. The set is somewhat prototypical and IIRC all items are US Made by Lionel in the 1990's. The engine is a good runner but due to the giant Pullmore motor and the seven heavy cars, it has to be run on the 16V setting.
I have read that j1a's pulled in this order; 1milk car, 2mail/combo car, 3baggage/combo(or both) 4coach's, 5lounge, 6dinner, 7sleeping, 8observation. Still researching,but that's what's behind my 5343s k-line
This is a tough one! I have a Williams Master Series Dreyfus which pulls a combination of MTH and K Line 18" cars (14 of them). Next up is the K Line 5344 pulling the 5 18" madison cars that K Line produced. Last is the Lionel Hudson with Vandy tender pulling the Rail Chief cars. This one is most often run at Christmas since the red cars go with the other house decorations.

My 773 pulls a REA reefer and four Madison passenger cars
Prewar Lionel 763e pulls 4 Lionel 2623 Manhattan cars
Postwar 773 pulls the postwar Irvington, Madison and Manhattan cars plus an extra Irvington car.
Lionel 90th anniversary Hudson pulls the K Line 28th Anniversary passenger set
MTH Dreyfuss Hudson pulls the K Line 18" 20th Century Ltd aluminum cars
Lionel Commodore Vanderbilt pulls the K Line 20th Century Ltd heavyweights

My CCII NYC 773 pulls (usually) a string of an MTH 30-6153 Set NYC Streamline cars.
My MTH Commodore Vanderbilt pulls the same MTH passenger consist, alternating with the 773.
Slightly off-topic, but my not-NYC, Postwar Lionel Lines O27 2055 pulls a coal consist. My 1948 Lionel Lines 027 2026 and tender is on display for "rail fans" a la' the K4 that was at Horseshoe Curve for so many years. (the 2026 was pre-Magnetraction, and so it spins under much of a load!)
Since I don't have any NYC passenger cars it is always freight cars.

Sometimes my NYC J1e Hudson pulls the circus into town.

I can now add the followup to this posting. In late spring (2018), my Atlas observation car finally arrived. The 783 does the long-distance hauling, after which my Lionel NYC S1 pulls them all into the station.
I have the 785 gray Hudson and I pull the TCA work train in the yellow colors, from a few years ago. Why? Because the gray Hudson and the yellow TCA cars are clearly orphans in the collecting world, so I joined them to celebrate their weirdness.
My Weaver NYC Dreyfuss Hudson pulls a set of NYC Weaver cars:
The Lionel Smithsonian NYC Dreyfuss Hudson pulls the Lionel Smithsonian cars:

Dreyfuss pulls 13 dreyfuss cars
J1 pulled about 18 cars, mixed between R50 express cars, RPO and heavyweight cars

Good thread!
I pull 14 K-Line 21" Empire State Express cars behind my MTH Premier Empire State Express Hudson.
I pull an assortment of Golden Gate Depot 21" heavyweight cars behind my Lionel Vision 700E Hudson.
I do not run anything behind my Hudson because I do not want or need one.
