Is this competing with the "Magic Tracks" that is seen on late night tv for $19.99, "plus call now and get a second one free for only a handling fee"?

Magic tracks seems much better in play value and cheeper and with two you can race them! I expect to see mega-tracks at Ollie's outlet next to the Lionel Christmas ornaments and the battery operated lionel trains with the plastic track.

I have fond memories of Hot Wheels.  We used to use the tracks with a joiner at one end as throwing spears.  My two brothers and I invented a game we called Sakitawa.  One guy would make a fortress at the top of the stairs out of pillows.  He was armed with three or four spears.  The other two had a pillow for a shield and a spear and would assault the fortification.  The game began with the guy at the top of the stairs calling out 'Sakitawa'!  The two attackers would answer back, 'Sakitawee'!  Then the battle commenced.  If the guy at the top of the stairs got hit with a spear, he died and we would switch roles.  If one of the attackers got speared he would roll down to the bottom of the stairs and start over.  We always played it clad in underwear briefs only.  Doesn't have anything to do with Megatracks of course.  Just thought I'd share.  Cheers.

With out a doubt, this post has the most useful information of any posted in the... MORE than a year since this thread started.  Thank you, William 1, you actually made it worth clicking on the email from a year old thread.

For whatever it's worth, there might just be some market out there for a random gimmick, just as I said a year ago, it's not us.  I Wouldn't lump all of Lionel's toy-type products in the same category, however.  There is certainly a market for the little push trains... though Lionel has priced themselves out of that market, for the most part.  If you're unsure, take a stroll through a toys-R-us one day.  You'll find both sides of a complete aisle filled with toy trains, most branded with 'Thomas and friends' ... and not a single one branded 'Lionel'.  My take away when I went shopping with a friend with small children was this:  Mega tracks may be irrelevant to folks in the O gauge hobby, but Lionel is irrelevant to folks actually buying toys for their children.
