that lionel will release powered B units for the E8/E9's just out? am pulling a long train with mine and would like to have the extra power without going MU with other locomotion.

They have not announced any B units as of now.
i know, but the AA's seemed to be very successful and i hope that will encourage them to make such an announcement.
I think the chances of an individual "B" unit are between slim, and none. If they were going to do it. I think it would have been released with the A.
Just my highly (un)qualified $0.02 on this subject.

Two options. Get anothered powered "A" or kitbash a "B" to suit your needs.

I bought an unpowered MTH B E-8 unit that is just soooo good a match to my two As. Even has the roadnumber 949B, to match the Legacy 949! I imagine it would not be too hard to move the MTH body onto a powered Legacy chassis, but frankly the one is all the power I need.

I think Lee has the best idea on how to get a "B' unit. I agree, it is highly unlikely Lionel will do it.
lee, unless that MTH shell will fit right on a Lionel frame, it will be beyond my capabilities...
