What kind of lights did you find to use in your engine terminal yard and freight yard(s)?

Do they come in incandescent using track type voltages and/or LEDs which use other than 18v ac?

Found a lot of the MTH and Lionel street lights and out-of-scale yard lights searching for them, but no luck on good looking o-scale yard lights.

We'd like to put some around the roundhouse area and freight yard and wonder what other people are using.

I use the Lionel yard lights and some I made from a chop stick an MTH smoke fluid bottle (the ones that come with a new engine) top cut to resemble a old style porcelain Light shade with a miniatronics 16v. light for the final assembly. Here's some pics to show them. This idea came from a B&O rail yard photo I found on the net.

Count me in.  I'll be constructing a new mini yard at my Temple station this spring.  This thread is just in time to give me ideas for lighting the yard area.

I hope more "home made" yard lights made by members like trucktrain hone in.  Thanks for initiating this thread.

Hi guys

I use different ones in different areas.

In the Oil Field and track/roadway leading to it I use the Lionel and RK single metal post light - RK-1060/6-14071

In working freight yards and my Intermodal Yard I use the double lite Lionel 6-12927

I have two large under table yards and an ore yard high up on a mountain in the rear of my layout - for these I converted the 56-52845 Dept 56 to AC with bridge rectifiers. These are "stadium lights" and work well along a track which is just holding cars.

Passenger and Freight and Highway/roadways I use the Lionel Highway lights

 6-12804

Hello, I purchased a set of the Lionel telephone poles that they offer that had lights on the poles. There are 6 poles in each set.

Unfortunately I do not have the part number for theses pole sets. They are shown on Lionel's web site.

There are two lights per pole and the poles look very realistic with the crossbars, supports and insulators.

When lit they put off a nice low glow, like you would have from the older street lamps.

I believe Lionel has 3 different series of these poles.

Poles with lights

Poles without lights

Poles with transformers.

I installed three of the 6 lighted poles on the entrance to my engine shed and yard office. With the room lights off the light this area very nice.
