I want to wire a Lionel plug-n-play accessory to my layout, but I don't want to cut the connector off the cable. Lionel has an 8" cable with a female connector for this purpose; however, rather than spend $10 for this item, I'd rather make my own. The question is, what connector do I need? Here's a picture of the female connector on Lionel's adapter cable. Can you tell which one it is?

I believe they intentionally made it something obscure. If not, it's been an amazing secret kept since plug n play came out as to where you can buy such a connector (Digikey, Mouser, etc.).
That, or the item may be available, but if the pigtail is not any cheaper than from Lionel,it's not worth the effort to order elsewhere if the savings is minimal.

I bought a few variations and cut cords in half, etc. to match what I needed.
That looks like a pretty unique connector, don't know that I've ever seen one like that!
It's similar to the draw bar connector on modern American Flyer steam engines, except they have four connections.
Of course, that does not help.
Thanks, gentlemen, for trying. I get it that making my own adapter isn't going to be practical. Fortunately, I've found an outlet (activepowersports.com) that has the Lionel cable at a little discount and, more important, with a doable shipping cost. Still seems pricey for what it is, but less painful than it could have been.
Dave, the part # is 6-82038.

Thanks, deleted my question you are responding to when I realized it was the regular Lionel part number sold on their site. I buy from an LHS, so no shipping involved for me to worry about (and I think my dealer discounts a bit too, so I probably get them for 8 or 9 bucks).
