The subject says it all. What is/would be the favorite building to have on your layout? It might be a prebuilt structure or one you assembled from a kit or perhaps 2 buildings (one prebuilt and one you assembled) It might also be a building you haven't yet acquired but want to get for your layout. Be specific rather than generic - meaning list the building name and manufacturer.

Btw, if it's a building which you or someone else scratchbuilt, that'd be great to mention too. In fact, posted pictures of all your chosen and cherished buildings are welcomed.

One of my favorite buildings is our roundhouse. It was my son's idea to use a couple of Atlas engine house kits and kitbash them into a roundhouse. So he started the structure and "engineered" how it could go together. Then I finished the details like doing the roof sections and completing the roundhouse. I have not gotten to ballasting image and scenicking the roundhouse and turntable area yet.

Favorite would have to be a scratchbuilt coal dealer. Stands in the middle of the layout and stands out as it's fairly tall. Not modeled after anything in particular. Just searched out pictures and figured out a design that would fit my space. Built it as well as the base right on the workbench. The stairs were the tedious part. The coal shoots were just made up of parts from the scrap bin. The structure is removable from the base if any track work is ever needed. It resides on a siding at the edge of the layout. I really don't have a good overall shot of it on the layout.

By far and away, my favorite building is the Skeet & Poogan Freight Company.  It is a family owned and operated freight station in the town of Beawslaiw, California.  It is located somewhere along the Southern Pacific main line, between San Francisco and Los Angeles, circa the early 1950's.  Matt

The scenes on my layout are centered around Lionel postwar accessories, so my buildings are mostly small scratchbuilt structures intended to complement the accessories. Here are two of my favorites:

A MOW shed designed to house the ballast tamper:

Plastiville tollbooths (i could never find), church, supermarket, and barn.

Modern Lionel, the RR car diner.

A Marx gas station/firehouse.

Well now its Avanti's tamper shed! Lol.

American Flyer talking station 799 and even more so, the hanger platform.

Actually though you asked for specifics, any (hopefully green) glass roof covered platform derserves mention. I cant really be picky, the AFs as a set wold be nice though.

Lionels operating news stand and operating luggage station.  (Timer a bonus).

I stare blankly at the Lionel prewar tin coal elevators, and the little tin whistle or transformer shacks are always on my mind.

My end all hunt would be the hardboard and brickpaper Jefferson Transformer Powerhouse partially because of the porch light that came on with the power applied. At 8, i thought that was genius. Id settle for a ratty one.

Very nice!

I have a lot of kitbuilt, kitbashed and scratch built buildings, some very large and taking a lot of real estate, such as a creosote plant, but my favorites were not built by me, but were scratchbuilt  for me by a fellow from Marion, Ind.   I need to set them up for photos if I can't find ones I made (which shows them in place among other buildings, and not alone),  while this thread is still running.  One is a pair of sugar beet towers and loading shed, and the other is a very large grain elevator built from plans in an old MR.  Both have fantastic detain,  more than I usually apply.

Guess of all the kits I have built below is my favorite. It is a Schomberg Feed and Seed Mill. I was working in train store part time. The owner gave me the kit since the walls arrived in pieces (plaster). I built it but started feeling guilty how good it looked so bought it back to the store. Craig put it on ebay and sold it within a week.

I wanted the use the MTH Greyhound Bus station but did not have enough room.  I had a lead on a Downtown Deco version but the seller wanted way too much money.  So I made this one out of foam. It is a loose representation of a real Greyhound station in Arkansas.

Thank you folks for the likes. Gives us encouragement.

Here's an earlier pic showing the roof area
