I want to extend the wiring on several Fastrack switch controllers to they will all be in the same control area of my layout. I am considering 18 gauge five wire thermostat wire. Is this acceptable for this application? Other suggestions?
That's readily available and will work. The old school 20 gauge 4 conductor solid phone wire is not as easy to find. Stranded stuff is a pain for this application.
I'm using four conductor 20 gauge stranded jacketed wire. The current is very low. However if I were to do it over, I would use 6 conductor and power the switch with the extra wires so that all my switches were powered without having to power the track.
I use 20/6 solid thermostat/security wire. I can buy it in bulk at my local electronic shop. I do as Chuck wants to do and run power to my Fastrack switches this way. (as well as control)
