i was wondering what year this car is from. it is a lionel but that is all i know about it. it is all metal body. i think the trucks were changed. here are the pics.

That's a very common flat car. I have two of them. They are from the late 40's to early 50's. I don't have the exact dates with me, but I'm sure someone else here will have the info at their finger tips.

ok thanks. i do not like the trucks that are on it and i like the trucks from the 40's and 50's now i know what to replace it with ( the ones on it now are plastic   ( it givers me an excuse to attend the train show in my area  
1955-58, and the cars had either metal bar end trucks , or the AAR plasctic ones as you have. These were log carrying cars.

The cars also came in grey, and sometimes had plastic pipes.
From the documents I've seen it is unclear whether there was any consistency between color (red or grey) and load (pipes or logs)
The same car was done in yellow, and came with a Range Patrol truck.
I have a 1956 set that contained two of these, one red, one yellow. One had a log load (dowells) and one had a pipe load (thin wall styrene tubes). Pat B.
