Anyone know or have experience with wheel cups for the 221?

From reading the manuals for wheel cups, none seem to explicitly state that they are good for the 221. I have the 1946 version without the nickel wheels. I believe this means my wheels are the 1668E type and not the 1666M ones, but by all means correct me if I have that wrong.

Thank you

I spent some time this evening trying to work out the 221 wheels and cups. The early 221 locos had the 1668 wheels and wheels adapted from these wheels. It looks like in 1949 Lionel changed to the 1666M- style wheels. The early 221 wheels were the 1668E-5 plain end wheels and the 1668E-29 geared end wheel and axles.  The center wheels were a modification of the 1668 wheels with a longer crank pin to accommodate the valve gear used on the 221. These were the center geared wheel and axle 221M-6 and center plain wheel 221M-7.  The nickel plated zinc wheels used early in 1946 were the 1668/221 wheels listed above.  I do not know if there was a separate part number for these wheels, or if Lionel just used a suffix on the 1668/221 part number to distinguish them.

The wheel cups for the 1666 wheels are HH 1039. I am not aware of a wheel cup for the 1668/221 wheels.  This is a question best put to Jeff Kane at The Train Tender. There have been a lot of custom wheel cups made, but they are not cheep.
