Well, the track gauge should be 1.250. The tires are wide, so an axle a little narrow should not be too much a problem. however, a wide gauge such as the Williams NW2 or the MTH GP9 I would think would have a tendancy to climb frogs in switches.
With the huge treads, slight narrowing of gauge is not that bit a problem. Now if your tread is down around 0.135 then things begin to get a little demanding,
