Finally got around to adding white walls to the Lionel Legacy Nickel Plate Road 587 mikado. Very happy how it turned out - I used a oil based paint pen that has the expo marker type tip. Marker Pictured below along with some spare white paint sampler I had lying around, that also had a fine brush tip which came in handy for touch ups. Gave 587 run today with some newly acquired atlas reefers thanks to fellow forum member Milt Paiger.

Fantastic, Zach. I had waited for a #587 for a long time when it finally arrived. The version Lionel cataloged always seemed “confused” to me.  It had the Berk tender from its time in excursion service, yet it lacked whitewalls and had blackened rods from its time in freight service. Your improvements certainly move it in the right direction. Very well done.

Be sure to add the curb feelers to keep them looking that way!!

Just kidding, of course.  But whenever I hear about "white wall" wheels/tires I remember Dad installing curb feelers on every one of our cars that were so-equipped!  Our street had tall concrete curbs. They really could chew up a white walled tire!  I can still hear that raspy noise from the clamped on curb feelers as we'd carefully pull up to the house.  You might as well have been in a T-bone collision to get the same lecture from Dad if, in spite of the feelers, you dared to mar-and-scar the precious white walls!

Ah memories!  That's what I like about this Forum.

BTW...NICE JOB!

KD
