I am trying to run three different RailKing PS 2,0 steam engines ,  issued circa 2000. If I run them individually they operate without a problem. If I put more than one engine on either of my loops , my DCS handset can only distinguish one as active.

If I enter a command to "ALL Engines", all three respond en masse but only one will respond to specific, individual commands. All later issue, Premier engines work just fine in any combination.

I am stumped. My early thoughts are:

1. It may be a function of age. Early engines communicating with a much later issue TIU and handset.

2. Early RailKing engines may not have had specific, individual IDs.

I await the wise counsel of my DCS fathers and brothers as to how I might solve the problem.

PS. A shout out to Pat Petros (Pat's Trains) for introducing me to MTH and DCS in 2000 by selling me these wonderful engines.

While gunrunnerjohn is most likely correct, I have put 2 PS-2 engines together by adding them at the same time to the handheld remote. First I deleted both engines then added the 2 engines(both at the same time & on the same track) in as one engine; one was an SD-45 and the other a T-1 steam engine. I had the earlier version of the TIU software from around 2005 or 2006.

Since the  engines respond to the "ALL command" I'm assuming they're PS-2. This would also make me believe the tiu is putting out a decent dcs signal.

Here's what I would do. Delete them all from the remote and add them back one at a time with no other engine on the track. Only have the engine you want to add on the track... After it's added, power down for a minute or so and power up again to make sure the remote can still find the engine. (if not it  could be a battery problem especially  a engine  around 2000.  The whole thing could be battery related.
