I just got a MRC Tech 2 0-27 transformer and I like it, but it has a major flaw ... you can only activate the bell and not the horn.MRC woukd have to know that the lack of dual sound functions would anger model railroader. They make good transformers so they would know better.I can hook up a hirn button but it is kind if a puta.

Are you talking about the MRC Tech 2 O27 that has the Whistle Button/Slider?
From the manual

Yes
I think the point is, it only has one control. Yes, it's the whistle/horn control if the transformer is wired correctly to the track.

Okay I was going by the OP "can only do bell and not horn"
Anyway, the Tech 2 O-27 while very good, is also designed to be very basic. As you move up thru the MRC line, you get the "bells and whistles" (pun intended) like on the Dual Power O-27
All I can add is that lionel did the same thing with their transformers, the KW/ZW and several of the other transformers I have don't have a bell button, you have to add something to handle those (Lionel sold a bell controller at one point).

The difference is there was no bell hardware in the locomotives when the KW and ZW were introduced!

That is true, maybe they should of had the foresight to put it on before they needed it. When did they actually add something to engines that could use the bell button?
That didn't come along until they stated adding electronics to the locomotives. I don't know which was the "first", but back in the days of horn relays, battery powered horns in diesels, and motor driven whistle tenders is when most of the Lionel post-war transformers were designed.

If you are getting a bell activation when sliding the "Whistle" slider you probably have your wires reversed.

I wouldn't consider it a flaw, more like a feature that is missing - it can be remedied by buying an external activation unit. Lionel had the 6-5906 Sound Activation Button which seems to be available on the bay for about $16-$25. Or you can make your own, see this thread: https://ogrforum.com/...nd-activation-button
UPDATE: I see Trainz has the Lionel button available for $15.99: https://www.trainz.com/product...nd-activation-button
As I recall, the Tech II O27 was MRC's first venture into the AC O Gauge world. The Tech II O27 came out around 1987, long before even an electronic bell sound was available in Lionel locomotives.

I bought one back around 1981 to run my American Flyer trains. Turns out that it had insufficient power for the task. Too bad.
