Yes. The engine lights are wired direct to track power but the motor gets power from a board in the tender.
Thank you very much.
well i got it run . More issues . The transformer is 90 watts and gets hot and it must have a breaker inside as the electricity cuts off . Its putting is out a little more than 4.8 volts measured at the track connector. is 90 watts ok. I think i bought a defective transformer on e bay .
What transformer do you have (make and model)? If it's a Lionel 90W, connect your wires between the 'U' and 'A' posts. It should put out about 15 volts max, open circuit, and 12VAC with a reasonable load.
it is a Lionel 90 watts . but it won't put out that much and then overloads and smells hot shuts off . i am going to order a brand new one . thank you for responding.
there are so many different ones what do you recommend
As TED S has stated, be sure you are using the right posts. A-B is a constant 5 volts. You want A-U as it says near the handle. U is the first post on the left and the next one to the right is A. This is a Lionel 1033 transformer; 90 watts.
