Williams and Williams by Bachmann have made a strange choice of a Burlington Northern color and graphic Scheme for their SD90MAC.

The guys there claim that Burlington Northern does not sell well. Of course it will not sell well if you NEVER put the BN SD60MAC and BN SD70MAC on the similar SD90MAC. Putting the BN SD60M on the SD90MAC does not fit with the MAC concept, and it a less attractive graphic scheme than was applied to the BN SD60MAC trio and the BN SD70MAC series.

Since Williams by Bachmann has a model of the SD90MAC, what happened to the Canadian Pacific Railway in their line. Have they ever offered Canadian Pacific since there were CP SD90MACs?

Why not put the ALASKA RailRoads SD70MAC with flaired radiators scheme on the SD90MAC to give people a less expensive option? The Alaska Railroad seems popular in O Gauge 3-Rail.

Thanks,

Andrew

I'd like to add that WBB gets the Norfolk Southern heritage scheme wrong!!!

The NS never had SD-90's in the heritage scheme as far as I know of, maybe somebody can give me more accurate info. WBB makes an SD-90 with Reading Lines on it for the BN heritage series which I feel is totally wrong!

Another one that either Williams or WBB did wrong was the GP-38 for Reading Lines, Reading never owned a GP-38(new or used), they owned GP-35's and a GP39-2's and GP-40's.

To confirm what I say go to www.wikipedia.com look for EMD locomotives.

Plus NONE of the Heritage units running around on the UP and NS are SD90's...

But, the situation is not unique to WBB.  Both MTH and Lionel offered locomotives in fantasy schemes, and on pricier products than WBB offers.

Heck, even in the "olden days," Penn Line offered their HO GG1 in Great Northern and New Haven.  Most of the HO manufactures back in the day took some liberties with paint and locomotives.  Some still do...

And, I'll admit, my tolerance for such things is wider for my 3-rail and S HiRail pursuits than for my scale interests.  But even with scale, I will occasionally make an exception.

Frankly, I'm more bothered by the apparent stubbyness of the Williams SD90's, but I'm under no obligation to buy them and I don't.

Actually, only the Pennsylvania/Penn Central/Conrail had them...

Their SD90 is a mere cartoonish representation of a real SD90. There is nothing even remotely realistic about it at all. Why complain that a paint scheme on it isn't accurate? It's a toy. In this case it really is. If you wanted an actual model of an SD90 you would by an MTH or Lionel version. This version is more aimed at kids. Kids don't care about accuracy or 3 rails for that matter.

That BN SD60M color and striping scheme was plain looking in real life, but on the approximate model it looks like it was not completely striped and lettered. The only way those are going to sell is at half price.

Stop making the model scheme more bland than the real thing. Now it might have set it up so that they will not put any of the better Burlington Northern graphics on any other models in the entire line. That is the end of BN diesel paint schemes at Williams by Bachmann.

I could see these arguments if this was the O SCALE or 3 RAIL SCALE forums but it's the 3-RAIL O27 and TRADITIONAL O GAUGE. If someone posted on the scale forums about the really neat Williams train they just got the number of posts telling them they were on the wrong forum would be staggering.  If you want scale accuracy buy a scale model not a toy model. And if anyone didn't know by now Williams trains aren't scale in size, prototype accuracy or as to which railroad used what particular equipment they really need to go back to square one. Next thing you know someone will post that the Atomic Energy Commission never had glow in the dark switchers!

This is not about accuracy is is about marketing Killing-off the production of roadnames for diesels at Williams Trains, now Williams by Bachmann because they choice lousy graphic schemes that very few people liked or messed up a great graphic and color design resulting in very slow sales.

The Burlington Northern and Soo Line roadnames will not be produced again until their is a complete retirement of the old guys.

It is not a matter of scale accuracy it is ugly graphics versus appealing graphics.
