I’m  having a nightmare with these Ross switches between the chattering etc ..if anyone would be interested in coming up a schematic  to get this operate properly

(non  derailing etc)  I would more than happy to pay for your time cuz I’ve been at for two weekends and want get my track down and move forward ..

thank you for the consideration

Can you explain in a bit more detail what you are having problems with?  What is chattering?  Does it chatter all the time?  Is the switch trying to open and close at the same time? Or does it not stop after the switch has been thrown and completed the action cycle?

Are you using ~12-14 volts AC supply to the switches (not your track voltage)?

Are the outside rails isolated allowing the non-derail to operate?

Check the wiring to make sure the leads that go to the isolated rails are connected to the correct control wire to the switch motor.

Are you using the diodes as indicated?  These are 1N4001 available from www.jameco.com or others and rated for 50 volts, 1 amp.  I seem to recall that Ross in now placing these inside the switches with current version offerings.

I use a separate small transformer for switches only. Set at 12 to 14 volts. Just be sure to run a ground wire from your switch transformer to ground of your  other power transformers. Don’t use track power for your switches. You probably know all this, but just in case. I have all DZ 2500 switches with all now derailing, even a double cross over. No chattering and no need for diodes. I also have a data driver so I can change switch directions with legacy remote. I would send you diagram but it’s slightly different with Dz 2500 that I use. Send Dennis Zander from Z stuff an email. He will be glad to help. His email is drzander@aol.com

Ok ..I’m finding that I have to use a separate transformer in order to power the cut track in between the turnouts ..otherwise I get chatter ..which sounds crazy ..this means  ll have to install fiber  pins in both sides of the the cut piece .does this sound correct ..other wise that track is dead with no connection .

thanks

Bobby

I assume  that your "cut track" is a small piece of track between two turnouts.  If you are using Gargraves track, is there a wire on the bottom of the "cut track", connecting the two outer rails with one another?  It should be slightly wider than the track width and pinched on the bottom of each rail. I have 32 Ross switches. all with separate NJI switch motors,  So, I may be all wet with my suggestions.  However, I do think that the "chattering" is the result of some kind of continuity problem.  If you can't solve the problem, give Steve Breneisen at Ross a call. He is a great guy and I am confident he will be able to help you out.
