I'm starting construction of a small (10' X 6'6") standard gauge layout. I was planning on using 14 gauge stranded wire for the bus with 16 gauge drops, however, I just acquired for a free a coil of 12 gauge stranded wire in black and red which is enough to create my bus.
I have two questions for you electrical experts.
1 - is there any disadvantage (other than cost) to using a lower gauge wire?
2 - Since I will be having two independent loops I will be running a second bus. Does that need to be the same gauge as the first or would it be OK to go with 14 gauge for the wire I need to purchase?
